OpenSound continues its collaboration with the Somerville Arts Council in presenting the cutting edge in contemporary experimental music at Union Square’s Third Life Studio.

This month, an all-star cast of characters will vibrate the air pressure like its 1999.

Led by Bhob Rainey, one of the most celebrated improvisers working today, the BSC comprises eight members who represent some of the world's finest electro-acoustic musicians. The BSC generates consistently fresh and compelling work through innovative rehearsal techniques and long-standing musical collaborations between individual members of the group. The BSC has been a mainstay at numerous festivals of serious music and is the focal point of Philadelphia's Phoneme festival this September. The BSC members are:
Greg Kelley - trumpet
James Coleman - theremin
Mike Bullock - bass
Liz Tonne - voice
Vic Rawlings - prepared amplified cello and surface electronics
Chris Cooper - prepared guitar and electronics
Howard Stelzer - tapes

Chandan Narayan (b.1975, Alameda, CA) plays the autoharp. His initial approach to the instrument was guided by complete naivety. Over the years he has refined his non-idiomatic techniques in the hopes of fooling the listener (and himself) with the autoharp as source of acoustic anomalies.
He performs and records regularly with the all-acoustic Canadian power trio, Glass Plates (with Jeffrey Allport and Robert D. Pedersen) and the Philadelphia quintet, Benito Cereno. He has shared the stage and living room performing and recording alongside the likes of Kenny Roux, Tomas Korber, Gunter Muller, Jesse Kudler, Lee Hutzulak, Christine Sehnaoui, Angharad Davies, Chris Cogburn, Jonathan Sielaff, and Gust Burns among others.
Chandan owns and operates the Simple Geometry (www.simplegeometry.org) label. Current releases include a trio with Angharad Davies (violin) and Jeffrey Allport and a 3" by Benito Cereno.
