OpenSound continues its collaboration with the Somerville Arts Council in presenting the cutting edge
in contemporary experimental music at Union Square’s Third Life Studio.
This month we have several multi-media collaborations as well as SPECIAL GUESTS who will provide many
high frequencies, blips, drones and electronic pterodactyl screeches.
Walter Wright is a video artist, teaches studio art at Lasell College, and is the Director of 119 Gallery.
One of the first video animators, he worked at Computer Image Corporation in the 1970's animating
letters and words for The Electric Company. He was an Associate Director at the Kitchen. He left NYC
to join the Experimental Television Center where he pioneered video performance touring with the Paik/Abe
Video Synthesizer. In the 1980's he taught video art, sound art and computer graphics at William James
College and Virginia Commonwealth University. In the 1990's he worked as a software engineer for
Truevision. He wrote his own performance video system, the Video Shredder. Recently, he began
experimenting with Max/MSP and softVNS.
Bebe Beard, video sculptor. Bebe earned her MFA from Mass College of Art in 1996. She has held
residencies at Djerassi Resident Artists Program, the MacDowell Colony and the Experimental Television
Center. She has been exhibited in many galleries in the Boston area and throughout the U.S. Her videos
have been screened locally and overseas. Bebe teaches at Wentworth Institute and Suffolk University.
Jess Opie, improvisational actor, is a member of Unexpected Turbulence, a popular improvisational
acting group that performs regularly in Boston.
Joe Burgio, improvisational dancer. Joe performs with the elite of performance artists, including Heather
McQuiston, Walter Wright, Bhob Rainey, Nicole Bindler, Paul Kafka-Gibbons, Carey McKinley,
Mindy Gail Zarem and many others.
